Position Summary

This position is responsible for routine, repetitive maintenance, installation, and repair tasks in one of or a combination of the mechanical, building construction, motor equipment and electrical trades. Here’s what we are looking for in this individual:

HIGHLIGHTS
-Assists in troubleshooting noted systems and components.
-Possesses the knowledge, training, and experience to perform all types of routine, planned, and corrective maintenance on various building systems including the building structure, envelope and associated hardware.
-Ability to use hand and portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments.
-Ability to interact with staff in a congenial, supportive and service oriented manner.

Preferred Qualifications

DIVISION OPERATING NEEDS
Candidates should have the ability to climb, stoop, and perform medium to heavy labor and lifting (a minimum of 50 pounds). Candidate will become certified to the level required to become a member of the campus asbestos abatement team.

-have a working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations for the trade or trades to which assigned, and of the safety standards and procedures.
-have the ability to read plans, specifications, manuals and blueprints.
-possess a valid driver’s license.

-provide a record of dependability and past work performance, including a satisfactory time and attendance record.
-possess computer skills adequate to work with computerized maintenance management systems and other computerized applications as assigned.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.

Supervision Received

This position is supervised by the Maintenance Supervisor 2, SG-17.

Supervision Exercised

As assigned, may supervise Maintenance Helpers, SG-06 by making assignments, giving instructions and providing assistance in performing tasks.

Function 1: Equipment operation and maintenance.

-Operates machine tools, including hand and portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments.
-Operates and maintains heating and hot water equipment by replacing parts such as filters and pumps.
-Installs and maintains lighting fixtures, outlets and switches.
-Repairs, maintains, and services automotive and mechanical equipment.

Function 2: Performs semi-skilled carpentry activities and masonry repairs.

-Repairs doors, windows, window sashes, storm windows, stairs, railings, furniture, locks and door hardware.
-Pointing up brick and stone work, patching plaster walls, setting tiles, laying brick and stone, and finishing concrete work.
-Assembles bookcases, shelves, tables and signs.

Function 3: Performs routine repairs as assigned.

-Performs routine replacement and repair of plumbing and steamfitting equipment, and installation of new equipment by cutting, fitting and threading pipe, removing existing pipes and fixtures, repairing domestic steam equipment, and overhauling vacuum pumps.
-Repairs, rebuilds, and assists in installing metal, slate, shingle and built-up roofs.
-Lays and repairs electrical cables and wires.

-Changes lock combinations, installs locks, and cleans and repairs them.
-Assists in painting and decorating work by performing interior and exterior painting not requiring fine finish or decorative treatment, staining and finishing wood and furniture, and painting equipment.
