Position Summary

HIGHLIGHTS

SUNY Geneseo is looking for a new team member to join the Facilities Department as a Plant Utilities Helper. This position provides the opportunity to learn from experienced employees through hands-on training. Incumbent will aid Plant Utilities Assistants and Plant Utilities Engineers by performing a variety of tasks and routine manual labor. Employee will perform specific maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment. Great entry level position for those looking to grow in our fast-paced and productive Facilities Department.

Preferred Qualifications

DIVISION OPERATING NEEDS

Candidate will have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, and communicate verbally. Must have a record of dependability and past work performance, including satisfactory time and attendance record. Ability to climb, stoop, and do moderately heavy labor and lifting (a minimum of 50 pounds). Ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on a 40-hour week, plus mandatory overtime when necessary and respond to urgent and emergency calls on a daily basis.

There are no education or experience requirements for this class. Must possess a valid New York State driverÂ?s license for the type of vehicle operated.

Job Duty/ Responsibility

Function 1: Assist in the routine maintenance of equipment

-Clean heating and utilities areas
-Clean and polish operating equipment
-Clean parts and equipment that are being overhauled
-Lubricate machinery in the boiler, chiller, pump and mechanical equipment rooms based on schedule
-Paint heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and related areas
-Perform specific tasks as directed in performing maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment, steam, gas and water lines, and other related plumbing, heating or ventilation equipment
-Assist in the day to day operation and maintenance of the high pressure steam and heating hot water satellite boilers and their related auxiliary systems
-Maintain all boiler rooms in a clean, well-lit and safe condition at all times

-Perform specific tasks in operating utility plant equipment including heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment to learn operating procedures
-Participate in in-service training courses and on-the-job instruction in the fundamentals of utility plant operation and engineering

Function 3: Miscellaneous

-May pick up and deliver parts
-Take various meter readings, which may include gas, water, and electric meters, and maintain neat and accurate logs as assigned
-Perform daily inspection tours of all satellite boiler rooms, observe operating conditions and make appropriate notations in boiler logbooks
-Provide assistance in the sampling testing and chemical treatment of satellite boilers
