International Admissions and Application Procedures

Priority Deadlines: March 1 for Fall semester (beginning in August) and November 1 for Spring semester (beginning in January). Applications may be accepted beyond these dates on a case by case basis.

Application Procedures

  1. Complete the Common Application or  SUNY Application
  2. Submit academic records with English translations
    1. Freshman Applicants:  Official secondary school transcripts from all secondary schools attended as well as any official external examination results (IGCSE, WASSCE, IB, etc.)  
    2. Transfer Applicants:  Official university transcripts from all institutions attended.  Course descriptions may be required for transfer credit evaluations.  Transfer students should also submit secondary / high school transcripts.
    3. Final transcripts will be required prior to enrollment. 
  3. Proof of English Proficiency (Institution Code: 2540) Acceptable options include:
    1. TOEFL (minimum score 75)
    2. IELTS (minimum score 6.5 overall, no sub-section below 6.0)
    3. PTE
    4. iTEP
    5. SAT Critical Reading score 600+
    6. Completion of ELS Language Centers level 112
    7. Completion of IPP Program at SUNY Morrisville
    8. Students that complete at least 2 semesters at a U.S., U.K., Canadian, or Australian university with a 3.0 or better will be considered for an English Proficiency waiver.
    9. Students that have graduated from U.S. high schools, or from English-medium high schools outside the U.S. will be considered for an English Proficiency waiver.
  4. One Letter of Recommendation from a teacher or professor.
  5. A short Personal Statement detailing interest in the students' particular major and why SUNY Geneseo.
  6. Financial Statement of Support (Estimated I-20 expenses for one year: $37,154)
  7. Copy of the ID page of passport
  8. SAT or ACT scores are not required for international applicants, however, the International Admission Committee is happy to consider them if submitted.

Admission and Acceptance

You will be notified of the admission decision by email and by mail.  In order to confirm your intent to enroll, you must follow the following steps:

  1. Accept Admission and Scholarship offers by emailing  isss@geneseo.edu
  2. Submit $500 USD Tuition Deposit. Submitting the deposit secures the students' place in the incoming class and accepts the scholarship offer. The deposit is applied directly to the students' tuition, housing, and health insurance costs. Deposits can be paid through Flywire
  3. Activate myGeneseo student account and affirm the Geneseo Student Code of Conduct.
  4. Submit Residence Life Housing Application
  5. Prepare all official documents (final transcripts, exam results, test scores) to be submitted.
  6. Get ready for New International Student Orientation!
  7. Complete Health and Immunization Requirements

All costs are listed in USD. Costs are subject to change without notice.

Tuition and Fees (Including Fall and Spring Semesters):  $19,206

Room and Meals: $15,380

Health Insurance:  $2,568

Total estimated cost per year:  $37,154

Many international students will qualify for an academic scholarship.  Academic scholarships go up to $7000 per year and are based on any available grades, test scores, recommendations, and personal statements.
