- Shauna Ricketts ’18 Receives Fulbright Award to BulgariaAspiring film producer Shauna Ricketts ’18 fell in love with the art and educational power of documentaries while studying abroad during the spring 2017 semester in Southeast Asia at Thailand’s Mahidol University. Ricketts will have an opportunity to continue her cultural education abroad in September when she begins her year as a 2018-19 U.S. Student Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Bulgaria.
- Geneseo Wins a First Place Award in State Business Plan Competition FinalsA student team from SUNY Geneseo’s VentureWorks entrepreneurship program won first place in the advanced technology track in the finals of the ninth annual New York State Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) April 27 in Albany.
- Geiser-Getz Named Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Glenn Geiser-Getz has been named vice provost for academic affairs at SUNY Geneseo effective June 28. This position replaces the role held by Ken Kallio, interim associate provost for personnel and diversity, who is retiring in June. Geiser-Getz has previously served as associate provost at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire.
- Mendez Earns Competitive FEA Scholarship, the First for GeneseoWaderlie Mendez ’20 has been named a Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) Scholar for 2018-19 and will travel to Cadiz, Spain, and around the country this summer to study Spanish language and culture. The sophomore psychology major is the first Geneseo student to win this award and joins a class of 100 Scholars chosen from a pool of more than 2,300 applicants representing approximately 517 colleges and universities across the country.
- Alumna Leandra Griffith ’16 Latest Geneseo ‘Fulbrighter’Alumna Leandra Marie Griffith ’16 has won a 2018-19 U.S. Student Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) award for Belgium.
- Geography Program Recognized for Excellence SUNY Geneseo’s Department of Geography has been awarded the 2018 Award for Bachelors Program Excellence from the American Association of Geographers (AAG).
- Milne Library Makes History With National AwardThe Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) named Milne Library at SUNY Geneseo the best in the country with its 2018 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award in the college category.

- U of R Laser Energetics Lab Continues Funding of Geneseo Research ProjectThe Department of Physics and Astronomy has received a $420,000 award for the 2017-18 school year from the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics in support of an ongoing collaborative research project titled “Nuclear and Plasma Diagnostics for the EP-OMEGA and MTW Laser System.”
- Allen Authors Textbook Examining the Psychology of HappinessHow do you define happiness? Jim Allen, associate professor of psychology at SUNY Geneseo, has taken a critical look at that question in his recently published textbook titled “The Psychology of Happiness in the Modern World: A Social Psychological Approach.” Published by Springer, the book places a socio-cultural lens on the field by emphasizing economic and other social/structural factors that influence human happiness.

- Imam Khalid Latif’s MacVittie Lecture Nov. 14 to Focus on Racialized Religion and Faith in the U.S.Imam Khalid Latif, executive director and chaplain for the Islamic Center at New York University, will deliver SUNY Geneseo’s 2017 MacVittie Lecture Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Doty Hall Recital Hall. His address, “Racialized Religion: Understanding Faith in the United States,” is free and open to the public.
- Twelve Students Present Research at Annual COPLAC ConferenceTwelve SUNY Geneseo students presented their research projects Oct. 13-14 at the Council of Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) Northeast Undergraduate Research Conference in Pennsylvania.
- Concert to Feature World Premiere of McClure’s Composition Generated from Antarctic DataThe annual fall concert of the Geneseo Chamber Singers and Spectrum Singers will have a unique tone this year featuring the world premiere of Glenn McClure’s '86/MSEd '11 new choral composition “Tremble,” based upon scientific data he gathered during a visit to Antarctica last year. The concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 in the Doty Hall Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.
- CIDD Ambassadors for 2017-18 Working on Innovative ProjectsTen SUNY Geneseo students are serving as ambassadors in the College’s Center for Inquiry, Discovery and Development (CIDD) for the 2017-18 school year.
- Gilman Award is Catalyst for Alexis Leslie’s Study Abroad Experience in South AfricaAlexis Leslie, a sophomore from Buffalo, N.Y., is in a study abroad program in Cape Town, South Africa this semester, thanks to a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship she recently earned. She is the 19th Geneseo student to win this State Department award since 2010 and the 21st overall.
- Two Geneseo Graduates Earn Fulbright AwardsGeneseo graduates Kiaya Rose Dilsner-Lopez '17 and Patrick McCormick ’15 have been awarded U.S. Student Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) awards to Brazil for 2018.

- Discovery Cafe to Bring Science Talks to CommunityPatrick Buckley ’19, will launch his Discovery Cafe with three free public events this fall. The first talk, “A Series of Discrepant Events: Some Physics in Action,” presented by Kurt Fletcher, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Physics & Astronomy, will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Wadsworth Library on Center St., Geneseo.
- Lima to Present Lockhart Supported Professorship LectureMaria Lima, professor of English and director of the college’s Comparative Literature Program, will deliver the James and Julia Lockhart Supported Professorship Lecture Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. in Doty Hall 300 (the Tower Room). Lima’s lecture title is “Reclaiming the Human: From the Bildungsroman to Neo-Slave Narratives.”
