The revised academic calendar for 2018–19 and beyond now includes the option for students to take courses over intersession. The 2018-19 intersession will have a range of offerings that include online courses.

SUNY Geneseo plans to renovate two core campus buildings as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain and redesign facilities to create effective learning environments on campus as outlined in the College’s strategic plan.

More than 70 students and faculty sponsors from COPLAC institutions in the Northeast will convene on campus October 12–13 as Geneseo hosts the 2018 Northeast Regional Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity Conference (URSCA).

October is Campus Sustainability Month at SUNY Geneseo and the College community is hosting a variety of lectures, workshops and events to raise awareness, spark discussion and promote personal involvement.

SUNY Geneseo’s summer 2018 orientation saw record attendance with over 98 percent of first-year and 78 percent of transfer students attending the program’s various sessions.

Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a leader in the indigenous environmental activist community, will deliver the President’s 2018 Sustainability Lecture. Martinez will deliver “Roots of Revolution” on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 2:30 p.m. in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom, on the Geneseo campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Battles and Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) will host the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of Red Jacket Dining Complex. The ribbon cutting will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 21. The event will take place during SUNY Geneseo’s Homecoming and Family Weekend. A brief reception will take place at the Twisted Fork station within the dining complex.

A team of Geneseo faculty members, a student and a small-business consultant are exploring how large amounts of data can be conveyed through sound thanks to a $50,000 NSF Innovation Corps-National Innovation Network Teams grant.  School of Business student CJ Burke '19 is the entrepreneurial lead, serving as the team's spokesperson.

Fourteen SUNY Geneseo students are Presidential Scholars for the 2018-19 academic year, representing a variety of academic areas and exemplifying the college's institutional values. A presidential scholar is a top-achieving member of the senior class who also serves as an ambassador for the college.

With a lineup that runs the gamut from chamber music to step-dancing, the 50th anniversary season of the Limelight and Accents Performing Arts series is expected to be one of the most memorable in recent history.

Author and public historian Spencer Crew, Ph.D., will deliver the 2018 Walter Harding Lecture Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. in Doty Recital Hall. Crew's lecture, “Civil Disobedience, the Underground Railroad and Thoreau,” is free and open to the public.

For the seventh year in a row, the College has been named as a Lead Institution in civic engagement by NASPA. Geneseo is one of 72 colleges and universities in the U.S. chosen as a Lead Institution. The College was honored for its ongoing commitment to developing socially responsible citizens through its curriculum and co-curricular programs.

SUNY Geneseo tops the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Undergraduate Teaching” rankings among regional universities in the North in its Best Colleges 2019 guidebook. The College also ranked second in the “Top Public Schools” category for regional universities in the North and is 14th in the overall regional category of 187 public and private institutions.

Geneseo faculty and students will provide a day of free entertainment at this year’s Rochester Fringe Festival. Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Lyric Theatre at 440 East Ave. in Rochester, performances will include music, dance and spoken word.

SUNY Geneseo’s Milne Library recently developed and launched an innovative new search tool that can access 52 different OER sources that contain more than 150,000 items. OASIS (Openly Available Sources Integrated Search), was co-developed by Ben Rawlins, director of Milne Library, and Bill Jones, digital resources and systems librarian at SUNY Geneseo.

Geneseo has had a unique 25-year partnership with the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE), which is the second-most powerful laser facility of its type in the world.

The 10-minute survey includes questions that focus on campus culture and perceptions of the College and a section on proposed designs for an evolution of the SUNY Geneseo logo.

Washington Monthly magazine has ranked SUNY Geneseo second overall among 695 master’s universities in the nation for its contributions to the public good across three broad categories: social mobility, research and service. It’s the sixth year in a row that Geneseo has been in the top five schools in the rankings.

New and returning students and faculty are settling in for the start of the 2018-19 academic year as classes begin today.

This summer, the Geneseo community welcomed close to 10,000 people to campus -- from area high school students to mushroom lovers to fans of WWII aircraft -- bringing tourism and an economic impact of roughly $180,000.

After graduation, construction work on campus stepped into high gear, resulting in the completion of a range of projects and continued work on others.

State University of New York Chancellor Kristina Johnson recently visited Geneseo’s campus as part of her tour of SUNY’s 64 colleges and universities. Johnson joined SUNY as its chancellor in September 2017.

SUNY Geneseo has launched a new Music Education advisement track that will ready bachelor’s degree students in music to apply for the master of arts degree from the Eastman School of Music.
