Gail Cabahug ’22, an international relations graduate from Albany, NY, has won a 2022–23 US Student Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Award to Spain.
Department of Geological Sciences faculty member D. Jeffrey Over has been awarded the rank of Distinguished Professor by the SUNY Board of Trustees. Distinguished ranks are the highest honors awarded by SUNY.
In nominating him, President Denise A. Battles and faculty colleagues noted his outstanding research record, international reputation in his field, passion for mentoring students, and ability to integrate his research into his teaching.
SUNY Geneseo’s Assistant Professor Mackenzie Gerringer and thirteen biology undergraduates and alums partnered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Ocean Exploration program to study the deep seas in an online classroom. Their project, partially funded by the National Marine Sanctuaries Foundation, focused on how to use deep-sea biology data in the classroom and its educational benefits.
SUNY Geneseo has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as a 2022 ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting, which recognizes colleges and universities for efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement and student voting.
Kaaden Sherwood ’26, from Poughkeepsie, NY, recently received the Dr. James and Arleen Somerville First Generation Scholarship. A business administration major, Sherwood transferred to Geneseo from Duchess Community College.
First-generation student Wrileigh Bacon ’26, from Syracuse, NY, fell in love with the environment at Geneseo as soon as she toured the campus. “I loved how quiet everything was compared to my home city,” she says.
SUNY Geneseo’s divisions of Finance and Administration and Academic Affairs have named Joanna Santos-Smith project director for revenue generation, a new position created to develop structures and processes to support new and/or expanded programming.
SUNY Geneseo's Department of Theatre and Dance Studies proudly presents the Geneseo Dance Ensemble in Pursuing Connections featuring works by student choreographers with 31 performers. The artfully directed concert will be presented in the Alice Austin Theatre on November 10–12 at 7:30 p.m., and November 13 at 2 p.m.

In a special Halloween edition of Knight Lights, we feature the research of George Goga ‘17, adjunct lecturer and coordinator of the individualized studies program. Goga’s research centers around economic and political theories of the occult in Eastern Europe, focusing on marginalized groups who voluntarily adopt the identity of the witch.
Ten SUNY Geneseo students will serve as Presidential Scholars for the 2022-2023 academic year. The students represent a variety of academic areas and exemplify the college's institutional values. Presidential Scholars are top-achieving members of the senior class who also serve as ambassadors for the College.
